Your generous donation will significantly support us in fulfilling our mission. For over four decades, The Circle Theatre of Barnwell, SC—a 501(c)(3) performing arts organization founded in 1974—has been dedicated to providing live entertainment to our community.

Circle Theatre is comprised of dedicated volunteer actors, directors, and production staff from diverse backgrounds. The historic building that serves as our home is preserved entirely through the passionate efforts of our talented performers, ensuring that this cherished landmark continues to inspire and entertain for generations to come.

In 1980, the Barnwell Historical Preservation Society was founded to facilitate the relocation and conversion of the Old Presbyterian Church, which was to be replaced by a new Presbyterian Church now owned by Barnwell County School District #45. This effort ensured that The Circle Theatre would have a permanent home, allowing it to continue its mission of enriching the community through the arts.

The Old Presbyterian Church, originally constructed in 1848, is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Circle Theatre is committed to preserving the exterior of the building in accordance with its original architectural style, honoring its historic significance while continuing to serve as a vibrant cultural landmark for the community.

Maintaining a 175-year-old building has proven to be a herculean task. While the interior has been thoughtfully renovated since 1980 to serve as a functional and welcoming modern theatre, the original exterior and foundation are in critical need of repairs that far exceed the theatre's modest annual budget.

Your support is essential to help us preserve this historic gem for future generations to enjoy.

Fortunately, an angel donor has stepped forward, offering to match the donations we raise by supporters, to help stabilize the foundation, replace stairs and other deteriorated wood, and bring the building up to safety and ADA accessibility standards.

Our goal is to raise $30,000, which will be doubled through this generous matching opportunity, greatly advancing our efforts to preserve and restore this historic landmark.
